If StudioTax does not appear in the Windows Add or Remove Programs list, or if the uninstallation fails or gets stuck, the installation may be partially corrupted. In that case, the standard Windows uninstaller may not work properly.
Use the Microsoft Fix It Tool
Microsoft provides a free tool specifically designed to fix programs that cannot be installed or uninstalled. It forcefully cleans up broken or leftover installation entries and allows you to proceed with a fresh install.
Download the tool here: Microsoft Fix It — Program Install and Uninstall
Steps
- Download and run the Microsoft Fix It tool from the link above.
- When prompted, select Uninstalling as the action you want to fix.
- Find StudioTax in the list of programs and select it.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the cleanup.
- Once the tool finishes, restart your computer.
- You can now reinstall StudioTax normally. See How to Download and Install StudioTax for instructions.
Your Tax Returns Are Safe
Uninstalling StudioTax does not delete your tax return files. Your returns are stored separately on your computer and will still be there after you reinstall. See Will I Lose My Returns If I Update or Reinstall StudioTax? for more details.
