Box 22 – Why Does the Amount Go to Line 11500 and Not Line 13000 (or Vice Versa)?

This is a common question. The destination of the Box 22 amount is intentional and is determined automatically by StudioTax based on the taxpayer’s situation:

  • Line 11500 – Other pensions and superannuation: The amount is reported here if the taxpayer is 65 years of age or older at the end of the tax year, or if the payments were received due to the death of a spouse or common-law partner, regardless of age.

  • Line 13000 – Other income: The amount is reported here if the taxpayer is under 65 and the payments were not received as a result of a spouse’s or common-law partner’s death.

StudioTax applies this rule automatically based on the date of birth entered in the identification section of the return. If the amount is going to the wrong line, verify that the date of birth in the return is correct.
