Can’t Install StudioTax on Windows — S Mode

If you see any of the following messages when trying to install StudioTax, your computer is running Windows in S mode:

  • “You can only install apps from the Microsoft Store.”
  • “The app you’re trying to install isn’t a Microsoft-verified app.”
  • “In S mode, you can only install apps from the Microsoft Store.”

What Is S Mode?

Windows S mode is a restricted configuration that only allows apps installed from the Microsoft Store. Since StudioTax is not distributed through the Microsoft Store, it cannot be installed while S mode is active.

How to Fix It

You need to switch your device out of S mode. This is a free, one-way process — you cannot switch back to S mode after leaving it.

Once your device is out of S mode, you can download and install StudioTax normally.
