This error means something on your computer or network is preventing StudioTax from communicating with the license server. This is not an issue with your license itself — it is a connectivity problem that can usually be resolved by checking a few common causes.
1. Check for a Firewall, VPN, or Antivirus
A firewall, VPN, or antivirus application may be blocking StudioTax from reaching the license server. Try the following:
- Temporarily disable your VPN if one is active, then try activating again.
- Check your firewall rules to make sure StudioTax is allowed to make outbound connections.
- Temporarily disable your antivirus or add StudioTax as an exception, then try again.
If activation succeeds after disabling one of these, you can re-enable it and add a permanent exception for StudioTax.
2. Restart Your Computer
If nothing obvious is blocking the connection, a simple restart can clear temporary network issues that may be interfering.
3. Run StudioTax as Administrator
Running StudioTax with elevated permissions can help if a system restriction is blocking the connection:
- Close StudioTax.
- Right-click the StudioTax icon.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Try activating your license again.
